Acrylic, using metallic green, on antique Sri Lankan wooden window shutter.
Size: 35 x 84cm (14 x 33")
This painting is part of the "GOD Within" collection, which depicts Mahen's own inner deity, by drawing it inside a silhouette, generally a feminine one. The bits of paint on the sides are remains of the paint that was originally in the wood and gradually faded. Mahen used the same colour shades to paint in the centre. Using metallic colours make the painting shines and vibrates, depending on the light reflections and the photons of the light reacting into it.
The other particularity of this painting is that some people see the woman going up the stairs, some see her going up, or some can see both. It's like the glass half full or half empty, she can go up or down, except that, despite for the glass, there's not one 'negative' or 'positive' way to look at it. In both ways, she looks graceful, serene, majestic and empowered!
